Calistoga, Napa or Santa Rosa area to stay?

Priceline shows above three areas to bid. Where have you stayed, centrally located and that will give us the most for our money and time.

Much appreciated

Depends on what you want to do/see. If you are wine tasting in the Napa Valley, I'd take Calistoga. If you are wine tasting in Russian River Valey, Dry Creek and Healdsburg areas, take Santa Rosa, which is also good for day trips to the coast. Napa itself would be my last choice because it is more of a drive to the wineries as a rule.

e,
The times we used P'line for the "top star" (3*?) in Napa it was the Napa Marriott.

While it is nice, and we prob. will stay there again for a last min., P'line weekend, it's a bit too far out for us. You have to car it all over.
(Unlike or fave NV town, Yountville).

Calistoga would be more "central" and maybe even within walking distance to some restaurants, bars, etc. IMHO.

If you do stay at the Marriott, good b'fast place just south on the same frontage road behind a 76 gas station, Mother McDonalds. Good ol' fashioned stick to your ribs b'fast yet "Lola Granola" enuff for a runner in training.

If you have a car, stay in Napa, more choices and rates. Calistoga is great to walk around, rates are higher.

I would definantly not even consider staying in Santa Rosa, it is not close enough to the wineries and you may be disappointed by the strip mall ambiance surrounding your hotel.
Sonoma would be a good choice for the Sonoma Wineries. And there is an especially great boutique hotel in Glen Ellen called Jack London Lodge. I stayed there last week and was really pleased with all it had to offer and it was having super cheap rates of $80/night.
In Napa, the Best Western Elm House is another boutique (you would never know it was a Best Western if it didn't say so) hotel right in the cutest part of downtown napa. Agian, I stayed there recently for $120 a night.
For a really decent and central place as far as being super close to the napa valley wineries, stay in Yountville. The napa valley lodge is there, and that is pretty reasonable (about $120), but everything else is definantly over $200/night.

Have a great time in wine country!

I'd say either Napa or Calistoga. Either will give you access to wineries along 29 and the Silverado Trail. Calistoga is a relatively small town easy to walk around in. It has a multitude of spas as this was a thermal bath"magic healing place" for the natives. You have your choice here from moderately priced (The Calistoga Spa) to high end (Indian Springs). I agree that I would not risk Santa Rosa..
you could end up smack dab in the middle of downtown which is no getaway.
