Brentwood/Nashville info
Thinking about accepting a position located in Brentwood. Can anyone tell me what they like/dislike about the area? How about the cost of living? Do people who work in Brentwood generally live there? Are there any less expensive areas to live a short distance away? (Apartments)
Thanks.
Thanks.

Brentwood is an affluent suburb south of Nashville. It's new and congested. Large homes with BMW's & Volvo's predominate.
Many people who live in Brentwood work in Nashville, so the rush hour commute can be unbearable. I would say that most people who work in Brentwood live nearby, simply for the convenience if nothing else.
Less expensive areas to live would include Bellevue, which is west of Brentwood but also south of Nashville. My concern would, once again, be the commute to work. When you look for a place to live, be sure to check out rush hour traffic.
Your best bet may be to live in Nashville, such as the Vanderbilt University area or West End Avenue area, and then do a reverse commute. I don't know your age or interests, but that's a great area of town close to everything. Bad traffic, though. (Are you noticing a pattern here?)
Good luck!

From a former Nashvillian (if that is a word) . . . traffic is not that bad in Nashville and definitely no more so than any other city its size. Beleive me I have lived in DC and Chicago, now those are traffic cities!
That being said Brentwood iss a rather quiet, affluent, very residential suburb south of NAshville. It is a very family oriented area and there are less apartment complexes. Depending on your age interests, and even marital status I would suggest that if you are looking for an apartment to around the 440 area between I-40 and I-65. This would besouthwest of the city and just wwest of Brentwood. Westend Avenue as someone pointed out has some nice apartments and is a younger area, think single professionals late 20s to 30ish. Ajacent to that is the Vanderbilt University area which has a younger crowd. Just a little further out is Bellvue which has some great shopping. Apartments here are little more expensive and the crowd a little more professional, think single profs 30s or young marrieds. The southwest side is the ideal area to live in my opinion. Any commute from this area would be easy. Now if you were to look at a northern suburb like Hendersonville or even a little closer in like the Opryland area, you would have a bad commute (but still not terrible)

As a Brentwood resident, the above suggestions are good. Brentwood is considered an upscale, family community; however, if I were being transfered here to work in the community, I would first check out the apartments and condos around the Cool Springs area. Cool Springs is just south of Brentwood (5 or 10 min.) and very convenient, as it is one of the largest mall areas in the southeast. The Green Hills and West End areas are also nice; but with heavy traffic. Post again if you have more questions. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your visit!

I would vote for living near Vanderbilt. I would not look south of Brentwood. You would be way out in the suburbs and as a young person you will probably want to get into Nashville more to do things and are probably less likely to want to live in suburbia. Brentwood itself is pretty far out from Nashville's city center. Anything further out would be even worse. Live in the city adn commute out.
