Boston hotel
Looking for a nice Inn, small hotel or B&B in Boston. Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Charles Street...somewhere fairly central for good walks and shopping.
My wife and I like places with character but not too funky on this trip. Anybody stayed at John Jeffries House? On the web site the rooms look a little tired but a friend loved it.
Looking for under $200 a night.
Thanks

Newbury Guest House. End of discussion. Absolutely central to everything in the Back Bay (right on Newbury St.), with a Green Line T stop up the street. It should hit your price point, it's a shabby-chic dream, breakfast is included, I highly recommend it!

Gary has already gotten the definitive ansswer: Newbury Guest House.
The John Jeffries is more downscale. Used to be a nurses' residence for Mass General Hospital, and it overlooks one of the few remaining elevated "subway" stations in Boston, which is now being reconstructed. Might be a noisy site for the forseeable future. Also, it's at the end of Charles Street that's farthest from Boston Common and the Public Garden, so it's a less convenient tourist base than Newbury.
