Bodega Bay
Thinking of going two nights next week based on recommendations from this board. Any "should not miss" ideas for dining, sightseeing, etc? Also, what's the word on the Bodega Bay Lodge? We have a room being held in the west building, and were told it's not "as updated". It is a whirlpool room. Is the whirlpool just a tub or big enough for two? Thanks for the feedback, all! ps - spa info for the BB Lodge also appreciated.

Check out the "spa" Osmosis. They should have a website. It is relatively close to you. I think I might have recommended this but if not here goes. About 10 minutes inland from Bodega is a twon called Bloomfield. It's very small and not much there. However, there is a good locals restuarant called "Stormy's Bloomfield Tavern". It's nothing fancy and only open Thurs thru Sunday. But it has really good food. Prime rib is you eat meat is a big deal there. They also have lobster. I have eaten there over the years and sent folks there as well. A co-worker just ate there. She had lobster ($19.95) and her husband had prime rib (I think $22.95). There is also the Inn at the Tides and Lucas Wharf right in Bodega Bay. If you go into the town of Bodega itself you can see the "schoolhouse" from the movie "The Birds". Drive up hwy one and check out Goat Rock Beach. To my memory this is where there is a big colony of sea lions who usually pup and raise their pups around this time. Check it out with your hotel. You also will be about 30-45 minutes from Point Reyes. If you drive down HWY through Tomales you can stop at Tony's in Marshall for BBQ oysters. Again..nothing fancy right on the water and bustling on the weekend. Let me know if you need any more info on "Osmosis" and I'll see what I can do. Have a good trip.

bluesky,
The drive to Point Reyes Station is about 20 minutes down Hwy 1 from Bodega. It is a nice small town. The park itself is probably another 10 minutes beyond that with the outer beaches being even more. I recommend Abbott's Lagoon as a place to walk. It is about 1.8 miles through pastureland to the ocean beach. Along the way you will see all sorts of birds. This is such an easy wwalk to do folks bring their kids. It will clear your heads and remind you in spite of family in SF and the pending war in Iraq life in all its glory does go on. If you wander about in the town of Point Reyes Station you might eat at The Station House Cafe. It's also pretty casual and has relatively good chow. The drive to Point Reyes is a beautiful one along the Tomales Bay. The Spa I mentioned earlier(Osmosis) is not a hotel but a free standing Japanese Enzyme Bath (sounds weird but folks swear by it).

today's LA Times had an article on Bodega Bay:

The Duck Club is quite wonderful. Also, you might want to head out onto the point and hike along the top. It will be an awesome time for whale watching! Or drive inland toward the Russian River, Guerneville, Armstrong Redwoods, the Korbel vineyards tour....

I have never been impressed with Stormy's. It is pretty expensive for what you get. If you are in BB, I would venture into Sebastopol or Graton. Our favorites are Willowood Market, Stella's and Apple Hill (right on Bodega HWY..fairly close to Osmosis). therer are more great places all over sonoma county. You might try chowhound for more information. If you are looking for a fair price for a meal in BB,we go to Lucas wharf-at the bar area near the fireplace). The Sandpiper is a local place that has a ocean view.Decent food. Fair prices. Very casual. Bodega Harbor (Golf Course) has a decent (more expensive)place also. If you are at Osmosis and decide to venture into Occidental..Howard Station is great for breakfast. IMO The food is not exceptional in BB. It just depends on how far you are willing to venture.
