Blind hikers attemping Grand Canyon rim-to-rim one-day hike

One of my first hikes here in Oregon was with a blind girl.
She had a white cane and tapped her way up to the top of a mountain- it was pretty funny to see the look on peoples faces when they realized she was blind.
She worried us to death with getting too close to the edge but she assured us that she was more sure footed than we were and she did great.
Love to see people who dont let their handicaps stop them from what they want to do

Wow!!! What an accomplishment, most of us with sight couldn't do a rim to rim. It is neat to think of the experience from their shoes and how much is available for us to be aware of when we really pay attention and aren't distracted by the fantastic view.

I thought that it was pretty neat that they had a trail in Redwoods National Park(prairie grove section)just for the blind/seeing impaired.
I liked the guys statement that even though he wouldn't see the canyon, he could feel it. I think all you senses are brought to a new level at somewhere like the GC, so I totally think he could feel it.

Having hiked rim to rim 13 times this brings back a lot of memories. I have a lot of respect for anyone with a disability who tackles those two trails.
