Birthday celebration in Anaheim - Napa Rose or Roy's Hawiiaan Fusion??
Hi, Thanks to everyone who responded to my last post. As mentioned, my family (me, husband, 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son) are coming to US from Australia for a holiday in Nov/Dec 2009. We will be at Disneyland on November 30th, which is my husband's 50th birthday, and want to go out to dinner that night somewhere special to celebrate. Thanks to everyone who responded, and I think both Napa Rose and Roys Hawiian Fusion both look great. Clearly the food and the service at both are spectacular. What my decision will hinge on is this - two teenage kids who have been running around at Disneyland all day - do you think Napa Rose is a bit formal for them? I'm thinking maybe somewhere a little more casual where they can relax is the best option??? I am only going by the pictures on the websites so would appreciate input. Also, as my husband is the driver in US (due to your driving on the other side of the road to us!!), I don't want him to have to drive on his birthday night, so that he can have a couple of drinks, so I need somewhere not too far from where we are staying at Ramada Maingate. Thanks.

Me again, when I ate at Napa Rose when it first opened it seemed to be full of itself and overly formal to the point of being amusing to me. Like it was showing commoners and tourists just how formal it could get. Maybe it has changed now that it has settled in, hopefully someone can report on that.
I don't think you can go wrong at Roys, it is not overtly formal and is more relaxed and enjoyable in my opinion, but with excellent service. I was impressed with Roys (in Pasadena, So Cal) the other night when I attended a small b'day dinner and the hostess gave me a black napkin to use as I was wearing black pants and I would have gotten white lint on them. I don't think I have ever had that offered before. Roy keeps a standard, he is still in quality control.

I was about to reply to your other post to suggest Roy's as well as a couple of other options, but since you've already narrowed it down to Roy's or Napa Rose, I highly endorse Roy's.
Roy's is one of our favorite restaurants. We've eaten at their locations throughout Hawaii and a couple of them in southern California, including the Anaheim one (many times). We've always had fantastic dining experiences there. The restaurant feels classy because the food is superb but it's so relaxed. Some people dress in slacks and dressy casual attire, but we've also seen plenty of people coming straight from Disneyland wearing shorts and Mickey Mouse ears and no one seems to mind.

Roy's is a chain with one it seems in every US city..Napa Rose only one that I know of.
Roy's is owned by Outback Steakhouse.
Though I like Roy's and its decent food, I would chose Napa Rose.
If you do chose Roy's..see if they have the $35..3 course meal that they have in other cities..

I also love Napa Rose and don't find it overly formal at all. Our last meal at Roy's was not up to what we usually expect (and get from them) and we kind of got turned off, but it might have been an off night, so I am sure we will go back. I'd go with Napa Rose for something different.
