Big Island Resort Preference
Hi,
I have been reading most of the postings on this board for hotel ideas for the Big Island and believe there are 3 very good choices:
1) Kona Village Resort
2) Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
3) Mauna Lani Bay
It seems the best choice for a more "Island" feel is Kona Village, and I am leading that way. But I read (Fodor's Hotel Raves) there was some bug (cockroaches)problems in the Hales, so I am concerned. But then again, I also read Hawaii has bugs, so its not unusual.
So my question is, is Kona Village Resort experience worth the price, regardless of the bugs, or is Mauna Kea Beach Hotel or Mauna Lani Bay Hotel a better deal? It sounds like Kona Village is the only place with Hales and has the best beach and eats.
Thank You,
Tom

Kona Village Resort is worth every penny in my opinion. But it is a unique place, and not for everyone. I went to the Mauna Kea for drinks one night and it was absolutely lovely. Skip the Four Seasons - it is attractive, but it's ritzy-ness (is that a word?) overpowers the natural beauty of the Big Island and the amount of development that Four Seasons is doing on that stretch of land in despicable.
