Best honeymoon romantic getways in Florida?
Hi All, my wife and I are considering honeymooning in Florida. Where is the best location away from the hustle and bustle of family attractions, where we can get some sun and beach, nice restaurants and low-key shopping?

How much money do you want to spend and when do you want to go?
If money is not an issue, the Ritz Carlton at Vanderbilt Beach in Naples has never disappointed anyone I know. On the East Coast, the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne (off Miami, not in the Keys) has similarly pleased everyone I know who has stayed there.
I wouldn't go to Florida between July and mid October unless you are British and want to roast or are from the Deep South and wouldn't know how hot it is, though there are sea breezes.

Florida is a big state - over 58,000 sq. miles of land area with 660+ miles of beaches and 11,000+ miles of rivers, streams and waterways and a population of almost 19 million people. There's no one "best" location and unless you want to be somewhere in the midst of the everglades miles from the nearest man-made object there are very few places where you can be "away from the hustle and bustle of family attractions". Florida is a "beach resort destination state" so by definition those areas will have all the amenities that draw people. Tourists have been coming to Florida for well over 100 years - there are no "undiscovered places. Like the famous line from the movie Field of Dreams says, "If you build it they will come". Well, Florida "built it" a long time ago and people have been coming ever since.
That said, look at places along the Florida Panhandle such as Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Miramar Beach or along the western Gulf Coast such as Captiva, Sanibel or Marco Islands. Other places to consider, Amelia Island, Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic Coast, or maybe the Florida Keys (you may find many of the Keys lack the "beaches" you are seeking) but no place will be devoid of other tourists.
If you gave us some idea of your budget (give us a dollar amount not nebulous terms like "affordable" or "not overly expensive"), when you are going, your approximate ages, how long a trip you are planning and any other information regarding your likes/dislikes it will make it easier to help narrow down your search.

I think the west coast is the best for solitary and isolated beaches yet still in driving distance to airports and places to shop. Anna Maria and Longboat Key near Sarasota are nice places, but if you really wanna get out into the gulf and experience a small town island with beautiful sands head to my favorite Gasparilla Island and the town of Boca Grande. It is midway between Fort Myers and Sarasota and it is just a stunning place to stroll the beach:

I highly recommend it.

I second Little Palm Island.....possibly add it with a couple days in Key West to offset the peace & quiet....Sunset Key Cottages in Key West are awesome too!
LPI just had an add in our local paper for $599/night which is about half their normal rate....I've only been there once but I have to say, even at those ridiculous prices, it was worth it! Definitely cheaper than flying to the South Pacific & that is exactly where we felt like we were....truly special.
