beach vacation in August

Help-
We're looking for a relaxing beach vacation after August 10th. We're interested in renting a luxury house on or very near a beach with a pool. We have 2 kids 5 and 10. We do not like crowds or too much development. I have looked at houses through vrbo, great escapes always on vacation etc. in South Carolina IOP, Folley Beach and N. Forest Beach also looking at FL Marco Island and Palm Beach and St. Simons in GA. We do not require entertainment, just a few good restaurants and clean beaches. Any strong feelings about the places I've mentioned or some that I have not mentioned???
Thank you!!
We are travelling from Philadelphia area and prefer to fly non-stop if possible.

At this late date, you may have a hard time finding something along the SC beaches. I would highly recommend Palm Beach. It is such a great area and since peak season is over, you may have better luck with the rentals.

GoTravel-
Thank you for your input. I've not had trouble finding available rentals, I'm just concerned about whether it meets our needs.

Topsail Beach, NC may have a few rentals still left. However, as GoTravel indicates, you are getting very late in the rental season for a large cottage on the beach in early August.

IOP would be great for your needs. Beautiful beach and near enough to Charleston and Patriot's Point to have alternatives on a rain day. There is a take out restaurant on your left in the same shopping center with the Red and White as you cross the bridge on to IOP and it has excellent food for those nights you want to stay in. Boathouse or the Boardwalk (in Wild Dunes) are good places for the nights you want to eat out.

You might also try Kiawah Island or Seabrook Island. The rental agencies will be able to find you properties with pools and close proximity to the beach. A quick check shows that there are homes with pools available the 11-18 and 18-25. Some of the homes on Kiawah with pools near the beach, however, are large (5-6 bedrooms) and come with a large pricetag to go along. There are 3-4 bedroom places with pools that might work for you. Beachwalker, Resortquest, Kiawah Exclusives, Kiawah Island Resort and Seabrook Island Resort all rent properties there. Biking is terrific for the family at both places as is the beach.
