Hello

I will be in NYC for 4-5 days in June. Would you recommend to add a couple days at the end to visit Atlantic City? I have never been to NYC or AC.

I am not into gambling, just curious to see Atlantic City as how it compares to Las Vegas and hope to get some relaxation at the beach. BTW how are the beaches in AC? is it worth it?

No. Atlantic City is pretty tacky and worn looking. There are a lot of other places you could go in June for a look at beaches that would be much nicer, esp. if you're not interested in gambling. The only other draw to AC would be if anyone you particularly liked was doing a show there. But for beaches, the Jersey shore (look at Spring Lake which is reachable by train) is one pretty spot. The Hamptons on Long Island are another option. From where are you visiting?

If you've never been to NYC, I'm sure you can find plenty to do here with the extra couple of days.
Beaches at Atlantic City are not impressive, and there's nothing much to see at the hotels--not like the Vegas strip in terms of Wow factor. If you don't go for gambling, you've spent 6 hours rount trip on a bus with not much to show for it

I get bored in Atlantic City after 2 hours. I can't imagine spending 2 days there if you don't want to gamble. There is really nothing to look at ... it's not at all like Las Vegas in that respect, though it does have large casinos and some tacky shops on the boardwalk. And the beach is just so-so. I'd never take two or even one day away from a stay in NYC to spend time on the beach in Atlantic City.

The beaches in/near NYC are better than those in Atlantic City - which is a tacky dump. The only possible reason to go there is to gamble.

Natural beaches with just sand and water
Beach towns with boardwalks/services
City beaches reachable by public transit

From all the negative comments re. AC, I will spend more time in NYC.

Suggestions for a nice beach for a day trip (by public transit) from NYC are much appreciated.

Long Beach (Long Island) is easy to do on the Long Island Railroad. The beach is a short walk from the train station. You can also do a daytrip by train/bus to Jones Beach. You may be able to get a subway from Flushing to Jamaica (Queens) where you can pick up a LIRR train. Do you know what the nearest subway stop is to where you're staying? http://www.mta.info/lirr/
