As far as I know, all live either in Alpharetta/Milton/Johns Creek or Duluth--all are on 'the top end' meaning 'burbs north of Atlanta. Northpoint Mall in Alpharetta, Lenox Mall and Phipp's Plaza (both in Buckhead) would be my guess for their shopping expeditions but I'm sure there are some boutiques (sp??) they frequent too . I don't hang with any of these 'real' housewives who are NOTHING like the housewives I do spend time with in Metro Atlanta. Justin's restaurant on Peachtree St. and French American Bistro in downtown Atlanta on Ivan Allen are 2 restaurants where they filmed scenes... They've used the GA Aquarium for the after show...

With an 8yr old, I would definitely suggest GA Aquarium. You could then walk over to Centenniel Park and let her play in the fountains. The World of Coke, which is next door to the aquarium, is another thought but I say that with reservations. (Haven't been to the new one but was underwhelmed by the old one). Stone Mountain has lots to do now but you'll need a car to get out there.
The Varsity is an Atlanta institution for fast food burgers, onion rings, frozen orange drinks. I don't get it but then I'm not a native.

Having grown up in Georgia, I must defend The Varisty. It's an institution; it has wonderful hot dogs/hamburgers/onion rings etc.. Go inside and order - this is part of the fun. If you order a plain hot dog to go, someone will yell out that the order is for 'a naked dog walking'.
The other suggestions listed above are good.
Be prepared for it to be VERY hot. Suggest you emphasize indoor activities in the afternoon. The CNN Center might be an additional option or the Cyclorama though I haven't seen it in decades and don't know its current state. The High Museum is a very nice art museum but an 8-year old might not appreciate it. You could also check what is happening at The Fox Theatre.
