Armistad Cottage, Newport RI?

Has anyone stayed here? Or is anyone familiar enough with Newport to tell me how close this is to the town center? Trip Advisor reports are all positive, but some people say it's too far to walk into town, others are less clear. We're hale and hearty and love to walk (at home and on vacation), but when we're vacationing in a town we like to stay in or very close to the town center (so we can stroll around after dinner, e.g.). Does this fit the bill? Thanks.

It's .5 miles to the start of Cliffwalk/First Beach, and about 1-1.5 miles to Thames St/Spring St/the harbor (which is the main downtown area), depending on where you are going.

It's basically on the other side of Newport from the real town center, but not too far to walk if you don't consider a little over a mile "far". There is also a shuttle bus that goes around to various sites, including the mansions and downtown that should have a stop near the start of Cliffwalk.

It's in a "quiet" section of town but would be a long trek, about 1/2 mile to "town". On the other hand it is equidistance to the Beach, Broadway (more restaurants) and Thames St (town).

Thanks so much for your speedy replies. It does sound farther away from town than we'd like it to be -- which probably explains the much less expensive room rates. It looks like a nice place, so I guess we'll keep it in mind, and keep searching.

If anyone has other suggestions.....

Thanks again!
