Arlington, how best to see it all

I will be staying at the DCA Marriott, and want to visit Arlington the day after arrival. I know I can take the metro, but also heard there's boat transportation. If so, where would I catch that? Also, I want to see the Iwo Jima Memorial and anything else we could walk to. Explicit directions would really help since we'll be jet-lagged!! Thanks!

Are you just talking the Cemetery? If so just take Metro there and use the tram to see it. One of the stops is near the Ieo Jima Memorial while still inside the cemetery. What we did was leave that stop for last and just walked to the closest Metro stop after that.

Boat transportation makes me think you are referring to the water taxi to Alexandria or the boat to Mt Vernon.

Have you considered a guidebook? A pretty straightforward way to do it:

If you are planning to visit Arlington Cemetery, perhaps you mean a bus and not a boat?

You can purchase tickets for the bus tour at the Welcome/Visitor Center which is directly across the street from the Metro exit. The tour takes 45 minutes to an hour and you can get off to explore further at any stop. Alternately you can walk into the Cemetery. It's a 5 minute walk.
