Are Time Share "Tours" Worth It?
I was invited by a time share company to "tour" one of their properties in Myrtle BEach and for my time, they would offer me 4 days 3 nights at a "3 star" or higher resort plus, a 3 day 2 night stay at one of 21 locations nationwide, all for $199. The only thing I am hesitant about is how long of a commitment I need to take this tour and how much of a pain in my ass they will be in hounding me to buy something. Can I just go and skip the tour? Or should I forget about the whole thing altogether?

As a timeshare owner who has gone on many of these tours I would say a lot depends on whether you are even interested in buying a timeshare. First the "tour" is usually about 90 minutes, but they last much longer, especially if they think you are going to buy. Yes, you do have to sit through the "tour" to get the 'freebies', or they might/could charge you for your stay.
If you want to waste some of your vacation time, then go on the tour. Or tell them up front that you are NOT interested in buying and IF you do want to buy you will buy resale...no matter what goodies they dangle in front of you.
If you are interested in buying a t/s then I strongly suggest you go to the Timeshare Users Group BBS @ www.tug2.net and learn from the people who own timeshares and know the best and cheapes way to buy, rent, sell, exchange.
We enjoy our t/s and use them, but they are not for everyone.

Did a Singer Island time share tour with Marriott a couple of years ago. It lasted about an hour and while they want you to buy of course, they didn't put any undue pressure to do so. After I said no thank-you, I was on my way and got to enjoy the rest of my (cheap) vacation.
I personally think it's worth doing and would consider sitting through another one myself.

Actually, what you would be getting is five nights lodging for 199.00 or in other words, lodging for $39.80 per night. For a little more money, you could choose a hotel or motel any place you want to go.
