Anyone know about Metro Dwellings in New York?
I'm looking for a one-bedroom apartment in New York from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5 and would like to be on the upper west side. Have looked all thru NY Habitat but haven't been able to get one there. Am also checking Craigslist.
Does anyone know anything about Metro Dwellings: http://www.metrodwellings.com
They have space available, and it looks nice.
Price is in the right range too ($225/night)
Any other suggestions greatly welcomed.
Thanks, Nancy

Nancy,
Yes, I have some info for you, however did not stay there myself. Click on my name and look for my post about Central Park apartment rental.
We finally found an apartment thru NY Habitats, but I did get an interesting referral for Metro Dwellings. I will send it to you if you want to give me your email.

Thanks, Deb. I read your thread and it was very useful. The cancellation policy at Metro Dwellings has decided me against it: you pay 35% of the total stay, even if you cancel a month ahead of time. I'm looking at VBRO and others mentioned on that thread now.

Nancy,
From what I've found, most of the agencies require deposits up front. We had to pay 25% (I think) to NYHabitats, too.
I think you would find the email I got from a referral for MetroDwellings interesting. Basically she said she had been scammed by another rental property she had contracted and was leery about MetroDwellings as well. Everything went off without a hitch though and she was pleased with the apartment. You can email me at abqdeb@yahoo(dot)com... (you know what to do) and I will forward her email if you want.
I have heard of lots of scams in NYC with apt. rentals so please be careful. Our trip is not until mid-Sept. so I can't tell you about our experience with NYHabitats yet, but they have been very professional on the phone.
BTW, Faina's link is about the mole people.... I don't think that has anything to do with the apt. you are looking at!!!
Good luck!

That time period is perhaps the MOST expensive of the year. The Xmas tree in Rock. Ctr. gets lit, Xmas season starts. It's a zoo. A 1 bedroom for $225 at that time will be very tough.
I noticed this morning there are a lot of rentals available for floating dates at the Manhattan Club, a timeshare property in midtown on this website

Whether your Wed. start date will present a problem there, I don't know.
If you haven't done it already, I would contact nyhabitat.com and ask them what they have in your price range rather than trying to find a place on their website yourself. They often have more up to date info than appears online.
jacksbandb.com is a b & b with apt. like rooms. I'd guess it's already booked but you could check.

Thank you all. I just wanted to let you know that I found a terrific, one-bedroom apartment on the upper west side (75th and West End Avenue) for $175/nite on Craig's List. Have talked several times to the owner, seen lots of pictures, and I'm very pleased. I am a Craig's List fan, having swapped houses a number times with great success, so I'm quite confident that this is a very good deal.
