Anyone been to the new Marriott Grand Residence in South Lake Tahoe?

We've booked a 2 bedroom "villa" here for a short ski vacation in February. I understand this place just opened up in November. Anyone been there? Any restaurants nearby? Also, is there a free shuttle that takes you from the hotel to the casinos in Nevada? Will we need chains on the minivan we rented to pick up at the Reno airport?

rrr,

Regarding two of your questions: "Anyone been there? Any restaurants nearby?"

Yes and yes.

Hope this helps.

Haven't stayed there.... We like buffets at the top of Harvey's and Harrah's. There is also a great cafe/restaurant at Zephyr Cove that we love. It's nice if you want to get away from the "strip" for a while. It's about 20 minutes north of the casinos (on highway 50). Honestly, you won't know about chains until, probably, the day before (watch the weather channel for that area). We've been dumped on in the Sierra's so far, and you have to go over the Sierra's to get to Lake Tahoe from Reno. Some minivans don't have large enough wheel-wells to put chains on, so I would check with your rental company. I don't know what your experience is with driving in snow (chain control), but you'd be better off renting a 4X4 SUV. Generally, if the roads are bad enough to have to chain up a 4X4, they just close them.

I haven't been to the new Mariott Grand but I do know that it's located right next to teh new gondola on the south and the Embassy Suites on the north. The Embassy suites is right on the CA side of state line so typically you walk outside the hotel and into the casinos. This would mean that the proximity ot the grand to the casinos is quite close. A little longer trk to Caesars though.

Places to eat:

Riva Grill in the Marina, Evans American Gourmet near Camp Richardson, Nepheles on Ski Run Blvd
