Where will you be staying? Do you have a car? What kind of food? And what time of year ?(if in winter, outdoor dining is wonderful here.)

Mary Elaine's at the Phoenician, T. Cook's at the Royal Palms, Elements at Sanctuary on Camelback for high end resort dining.

My new favorite is Sassi in the area of Pinnacle Peak in far north Scottsdale. Beautiful huge Tuscan style restaurant that is really styled to look like a home with good food. You can google all of the above for websites with menus.

amwosu gave you a good list above, with the possible exception of Sassi. Gorgeous room, but the food doesn't compare to the other three places. T. Cooks is the most romanic. Mary Elaine's is the most expensive and probably the most respected, high end restaurant in town. Elements as gorgeous views and outstanding food. Another thought is Binkley's, a relative newcomer that's very high end and very hot right now.

My personal vote would be T. Cook's.

Wow... considering the heat, I would say stay at a great resort and eat there (thinking Fairmont). I wouldn't venture too far in 115 degree temps.

We really enjoyed the Hacienda (upscale Mexican food) in the Fairmont in Scottsdale.
We also liked the Different Pointe of View (Continental) for a restaurant with a view, but I know it it not as highly reviewed as some other area restaurants.

I love Durant's in downtown Phoenix..
Old school and the food is outstanding..durantsaz.com
I love going to the Biltmore and having a wonderful dinner or T.Cooks is really outstanding too..
I have heard that Binkley's in Cave Creek is getting rave reviews as well.
Friends have a really good restaurant in Tempe called the House of Tricks..
very romantic and the food is sooo good!
Happy 35th to you both!

House of Tricks is indeed wonderful - but the best part is sitting outside which is uncomfortable (to say the least) during the summer. As much as I personally like Tricks, it doesn't compare to the others mentioned.

As far as Michelle's suggestion that you never leave the resort, does she think that we never leave our homes during the summer? can you say air conditioning? enjoy your trip and your anniversary.

Mary Elaine's if it fits within your budget. A very special, elegant, but expensive celebration restaurant.

I just talked to someone on a plane who likes Top of the Rock. Anyone been there?

good but not as great as the others that have been mentioned. I'm a local and a food person. T. Cook's for romance and great food, Mary Elaine's for over the top service and luxury and prices and great food. Binkley's if you want to hit one of the newer places that got lots of buzz and great food, but no one outside of Phoenix will have heard of it.

I'd do T. Cook's.

IMO, Top of the Rock is over-rated.
