Scottsdale restaurants

Hi, We will be in Scottsdale end of Mar for a convention. Staying at the Fairmont Princess. We are hosting a business dinner for 8 people. I need suggestions for a restaurant. I have heard good things about Roaring Fork, Lon's @ Hermosa, Elements, Michael's @ Citadel. Can anyone help me pick? or suggest another place. Our groups average age is 40's, nothing too stuffy, good food and interesting atmosphere. I appreciate any tips.

I live in Phoenix and all three are good recommendations. Depending on the food and atmosphere you are seeking. Based on the limited description you have given, I'd say Roaring Fork would be the best choice, unless you have people who consider themselves epicurean, in which case Elements or Micahel's would suit them better. But both of those are stuffier and not at all SW atmosphere. All are great restaurants.

I also live in phoenix and am in the restaurant business. IMO Michaels is perfect, given where you are staying AND the fact that it is a good restaurant for locals OR out of towners.

To add to your choice dilemna, Lons at the Hermosa has a beautiful setting, dining can be indoors or on the patio (heaters, if necessary, and the food is very good.

I also enjoy the Roaring Fork which is more casual than Lons, but has an interesting menu that doesn't copy every menu in town. It is good for groups. If you go, ask for the Arizona room which is basically a covered outside room.

I think all three of those are good suggestions, but you can find them in any guide book.

Some other places to consider would be El Chorro, on Lincoln Road. It's not too far from where you will be staying, but is true southwestern atmostpher. March is the perfect time to sit outside and they have a great patio.

If you are looking for a good wine bar, Kazmirez, in downtown scottsdale is a great place to go. Its kind of a speak easy, but a GREAT atmosphere (Ask the valet where the door is if you can't find it). The same owner owns Cowboy Ciao next door and its great food (get the chopped salad).

Another great area to walk around in that has great restaurants is Kierland. North, The Green Room and a few others have great patios, great food and amazing people watching!

Good luck!

janiekins,

Yes, sorry, the Greene House (it just opened..good food, maybe a little overpriced). The same person owns North, just right next door, I think better atmosphere, better food (but dark). Look also under Fox Restaurants
http://www.foxrestaurantconcepts.com/north.html they own it.

Good luck!

North won't compare to the other suggestions that you have.

If you are looking for casual resstaurants, consider Los Sombreros or Richardsons. Both serve outstanding regional, SW & Mexican food. Not gringo mexican. Both lively, happy, busy atmospheres, reasonable prices. Be warned, however, that Ricahrdson's allows smoking, as the restaurant is in the bar (but is really very nice) and can also get a bit noisy with the bar crowd so nearby.
