Advice appreciated for a "middle of the road" location for a family get-together, PLEASE!!!!!!
Hello....
I am in the very, very early stages of trying to find a good central location for a possible family get-together sometime in the spring/summer of 2004. We are spread all over the East coast...MA, PA, NJ, NY, NC & VA, so I'm hoping to get some good ideas of places that would be as close as possible to equal driving time for all!!!!! Maybe a state park type setting where all the families can rent seperate cabins, enjoy fishing, a good game of softball, cookout, etc., for a long weekend. I understand that prices are subject to what time of year it is...high/low...but, with some of us having schoolage children the exact time of year is still up in the air. So I'm just checking out any possible options and would appreciate any and all suggestions!!!!!
Thanks!!!!

There is a YMCA camp in Claryville, New York that is an awesome place for a family reunion - there are houses and cabins there, it is affordable, and it could include all meals if you're interested. There are planned activities throughout the day, including canoeing, archery, wall climbing, etc. There is also an observatory there when it's a starry night. Check it out at frostvalley.org.
We have acquaintances that go there with their family every year. My daughter and I went there with her girl scout troup a few years ago, and it was great.

With family in FL, KY, NC, OH and CT, we meet often at Pipestem Resort State Park in southeastern West Virginia, not far from I-77.
The resort rooms are large and clean with incredible mountain views. Many have balconies. Cabins are also available. The resort has two or three restaurants and the food is quite good.
Lots to do -- hiking, golf, tennis, swimming, horseback riding, nature center, fishing, canoeing. Whitewater rafting is fairly nearby.

You may want to try www.xanterra.com. They handle lodging for national & state parks in U.S. Several parks are listed in Ohio.

Well, your outliers are MA and NC, so you would want to look in the PA and MD area to even out the driving times for these folks. I've heard the Delaware River Gap area is nice.
Forget the ocean. The NC people will have better in their state.

Pipestem Resort State Park, suggested by Arabella, is part of the West Virginia state park system. Investigate at the site below: you'll find a number of parks with different activities and lodging choices--

Hey Ginny:
We have been getting a group of friends/couples together for the past three years. I have found a great resort near the Pocono's called"
Lukans Farm Resort (www.lukans.com)
They offer clean comfortable rooms, pool, ballfield, basketball ct. shuffleboard, Ponds for fishing, Golf nearby, etc, etc, etc. Best off all is the FOOD..served family style and is excellent quality. The price is right! It is around $70/person (double occ) for room and two meals
They also have a large bar/lounge area with a screen/Cable TV so the group can enjoy the booze without worring about the driving! Check out the website
