Any ideas on renting a house on the lake for 6 this August in the Adirondacks?
Thanks!

virginia, you need to pay attention to the posters who respond.
The Adirondacks State Park is Huge! There are a few lakes.
Have you done any research?
Did you decide to go to the Adirondacks instead of Paris or are you going to Paris also??
Just wondering~

Dear Scarlett,
Here is our dilemma-- We have the offer of a house in Montmartre for 3 weeks in August. (we are signed up on HomeLink) We also have an offer in Reykjavik. The airfares to Paris and Reykjavik are high! If we drive to the Adirondacks, our son in medical school, who has little money and only one week off, could join us. Given that it is late in the game here, we are trying to plan this with little time to research. He loves hiking (did the whole AT). So, any help is appreciated. We were told the areas of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, or Lake George may be good.
Thanks for your concern.

At this late date, Lake George is probably booked and so is Saranac.
I think you should look into Blue Mountain lake. They have cabins near or on the lake. It is so beautiful there. In August they have an antiques fair ..
I would suggest googling rentals in Lake wherever and see if you can get anything that way-if you live in NY, you might find something in the Times, but it is late in the season to be looking.
If none of those places work out, I think Schroon Lake is beautiful.
Good luck!

Scarlett's recommendation of Blue Mt. Lake is excellent, and should you go, make certain to visit the Adirondack Museum.

Actually, if you're just looking for a relaxing week, and not a lot of dining out, amusement parks, and excitement - there are many small towns and lakes you could stay at. Some that come to mind are:
Northville, Wells, Speculator, Indian Lake, Long Lake, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Hadley, Day, . Get an atlas and follow Rt 30 ("The Adirondack Trail") and do searches on the towns that abut lakes and rivers. Also look at Rts 8, 28, and 10

my dh and I always go to Palmer Point each year which is in between Inlet and Old Forge on Fourth Lake. I know for a fact that they have availability and we love that place. And, I don't know if your son is at Albany Med, but it's only about 2 1/2 hours from Albany at the most. There is a website but I don't have it off hand. Good luck!
