A Couple of Days at Yosemite and Lake Tahoe

I will be traveling to San Francisco in late April and thought that i would make a sidetrip, spending a couple of nights each at Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. I have heard that Yosemite is very pretty during the spring, but only partially open. Will that make a couple of days enough time to get a good viewing of the park? I will be staying at Yosemite Lodge. How about Tahoe? I have never been to the area and am just going to see the sights, I'm not a skier. Is a couple of days there enough also?

I think that a couple days in each area should be enough.

For Yosemite staying in the valley will definitely help because you will have the entire time in the park rather than having to drive in each day.

2 days in each place will be fine. But do be aware you will have to drive the long way round to get from Tahoe to Yosemite. Tioga Pass (the most direct route between the two) is not open in April. Either down to Placerville and south on winding hwy 49 through the goldrush foothills, or all the way into the Sacramento valley and south on hwy 99 to Stockton, Merced or as far as Fresno and back east to Yosemite. The longer route through the valley is actually faster but not as interesting. Just remember to take the extra driving time into consideration.

Yosemite is beautiful in late April. The valley will be open. The up-country--tioga pass part will be closed, but most people on a first time visit with a tight schedule don't get up there anyway. Its gorgeous, but you will find plenty to do in the Valley. I did an 8 hour round trip hike to Nevada Falls--the uphill way once in late April. Snow up at the top of the falls, but pleasant walk on snow free path 99% of the way. There is a downhill hike that you can reserve from Glacier Point--but that could be snowed in at that time of year. M

Lots to do in South Lake and Yosemite- albeit different stuff. Get your reservations in Yosemite ASAP- the valley fills up- The waterfalls should be good in april- the primo time is May for the falls.
