5 days in Sedona

In October we will be in Sedona for 5 days staying at the Summit. We are both seniors and do not hike. Please guide us on the best way to spend the time and see the most. On the 6th day we will be driving from Sedona to Phoenix to fly home. We have 6 or 7 hours to spend before our flight. What is there to see on the way back? Any help will be most appreciated.

For the trip back, stop at Montezumas Castle, Just off Hwy 17.
If you can take it, a Pink Jeep tour (Broken Arrow) is great. Drive around the area. Go to Enchantment Resort and have lunch. Go up to Chapel. Take a "day trip" to Jerome and eat at The Asylum. Drive up Oak Creek Canyon to the vista at the top.

you might enjoy the Verde Canyon railroad. It's a 4 hour scenic ride along a river. There is some narration on the way out, mostly quiet on the way back. There are open-air observation cars where you can sit and watch the scenery go by.

Definitely do a jeep tour. We used Red Rocks Jeep tours, but Pink Jeep is highly recommended as well.

Yes, do take a Jeep tour, well worth it. There are plenty of galleries and shops in town, good places to explore in the Telepaque (?) shopping center. Always enjoy a good meal, there are many restaurants in and around Sedona.
We drove around to look at the red rock, perhaps you can devise a local tour on your own. I believe they may have hot air balloon tours available, check with your hotel when you arrive. There is also a multiplex movie theater, you may wish to see a film one evening.
In Phoenix, you may have enough time to visit the Desert Museum. Lots of Cacti and other plants, when I was there the hummingbirds were flitting around. Many restaurants to enjoy, check Chowhound for the latest in dining.

We also stayed at the Summit and we loved it there. Even if you don't hike there is a great place to walk just down from the Summit-walk out the parking lot and turn left and walk to the next street-just down a little and there are some nice trails-not very long or difficult and the views are great. We also loved the Pink Jeep Broken Arrow tour. We also took the Trolley tour to get an overview of Sedona and see which areas we would want to go back to.

We also stayed at the summit and enjoyed it - 2br condo for ~110/nt. We rented through Krazy Kyote (lodging/activity broker), not through the Sedona Summit web site. Rate was far less than Summit wanted to charge for same room.

In Sedona, we really enjoyed the Broken Arrow Pink Jeep Tour.

On the way to Phoenix, we stopped at Pioneer Living History Village, north of Phoenix. I am interested in Western American history, so I found this an interesting place. I would have liked to also see the Deer Valley Rock Art Center in Phoenix, but didn't have time.

While in Sedona, suggest you visit the Sedona Heritage Museum. It's less than a mile from uptown on Jordan Road. Set in a pioneer home, it's chock full of memories of yesteryear, run by volunteers, and open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gift shop is full of locally-created crafts and tax-free.

If you like prehistoric rock art you might want to check into the V Bar V Ranch or Palatki Ruins which are not too far from Sedona. There is some walking involved however.
