I saw them making snow at Breckinridge, which kind of amazed me this early. At least I "like" them on Facebook and they were posting such photos. Their opening date is Nov 11th.
I'm personally not a big fan of manmade snow, I don't think it has the same texture.

Being an eastern skiier, it's what we ski on!! Small little granules of ice. And for that reason, when we would ski out west and it might be "icy" we would say "what ice?--you want ice--we'll show you ice"!!! Miss it so much.

There is over 20" of natural snow on parts of Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. The Cloudchaser is under construction.
http://www.mtbachelor.com/cloudchaser/ I saw video of another tower getting the top set in place by helicopter.
The mountain officially opens the day after Thanksgiving.

You don't really ski on the man make stuff. The main idea is that thee man make snow is used to build the base. Then with few inches of fresh snow, you can have pretty good skiing. It has been snowing in the mountains.
