2 nights or 1 at Phantom for first-time Grand Canyon hikers

Jump to last reply

I'm starting to plan my first Grand Canyon trip and I think my husband and I are going to make the hike down and back. We're novice hikers, but I'm planning a trip for mid-Oct 2013 and I'm taking all the planning and prep tips (esp the physical training ones) very seriously. I def want to stay overnight at the Phantom Lodge, but my question is this--one night or two? Because we are new to this, will we need 2 nights to recover before the long trek up and out or is that overkill? Wiith proper year-long training will one night recovery be fine?

BTW, I haven't booked a thing yet, just weighing my options. We'll be new empty-newsters next year and we both have our own businesses so we have a lot of flexibility with dates so I'm hopeful we can get reservations. But the questions remains 1 night or 2 at Phantom?
