Galapagos in Dec 2014: Tauck or Celebrity or ???

We are a family of four: two sons22 and 26 and me and husband (late 50's). We are interested in taking our trip of a lifetime to the Galapagos Islands during the holiday season in 2014 (sons in school). I have looked at Tauck and Celebrity cruises as well as some other tour agents. I must say that i am overwhlemed and the cost is so very high. Because of all of this, I am asking those of you who have travelled this route and can offer me advice. Many of the trips are already booked for that time period so i feel like i need to move fast.
Can you please comment on the two cruise lines and offer ANY advice on what you may do.
THANK you so very much for all of your advice!!!!!

My husband and I just booked a trip to Galapagos for December 2014. We were told Celebrity is sold out until mid January 2015. You might want to confirm this - may help your decision. We opted to go with Silver Seas. Good Luck and enjoy...

To know, I'd have to see their itineraries and which islands these departures hit. Also length of time, snorkel opportunities, kayaking, etc.

I'd give the smaller boat the advantage.

You might also want to check out International Expeditions or Natural Habitat. Good nature companies I've gone with, though not to Galapagos. Also Wilderness Travel in Calif.

Also look at Galapagos Travel in Aptos, California. I used them 2x. They are more for nature enthusiasts, getting out early and that sort of thing, and using 16-passenger ships. May be what you want or not.

One other comment that might be a downer. If you have not yet booked, maybe choose a different destination for Christmas. I have had several Galap naturalists tell me that is the one time not to go. The focus of the guests is on festivities and merriment that are normal for that time of year. The emphasis of the guests tends not to be on the wonder of what's out there. Never a bad time weather-wise in the Galaps but I've been cautioned against a Christmas trip for social/cultural reasons.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Both of these yachts are really good but i recommend you to book with a small boat there are boats just for 16 passengers, and the tour is more comfortable and you can move faster that in the big ships.

I booked a tour for 6 days in Galapagos in a small ship in the main deck (double cabin) and the price was convinient.

Please let me know if you need more information or I can send you my booking with the itinerary to have an idea.
