Favorite Places To Eat....
I'd love a list of favorite places people have eaten : Lima, Cuzco, Puno and Arequipa.
I enjoy trying new food and places to eat when I travel. They do not need to be 5 star restaurants! I'm taking a cooking class in Arequipa and look forward to learning about the local market and purchasing the ingredients for our class. I'm also doing a home stay at a small coffee farm north of Cuzco.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In Lima / Miraflores, check out Tanta. Their Lomo Saltado was out of this world!

If you are going to the San Camilo market in Arequipa, the food stalls on the ground floor (not upstairs) are actually quite good places to eat..combination plates with rocoto relleno, ceviche (I think with pejerrey or silverside) and pastel de papa or papa rellena. Ask for it to go on a styrofoam plate. Also the juice section (ask either for orange juice or if it is made with purified water). Other than that, the other restaurants in Arequipa that I was happy with were all local places that served lunch specials along Mercaderes street in the "Casona" building. I did not like any of the tourist restaurants that I tried! Here are some fo my food pix from Arequipa https://picasaweb.google.com/kiwifan...AndBolivia2011
There are many great cebicherias in Lima at all price points, from the stalls at the Surquillo Market to Puerto Azul or El Pez Amigo (midrange) to Pescado Capitales, La Mar, or Chez Wong.
"Causa" is another Lima specialty on the menu often at seafood restaurants since the fillings can be crab, octopus as well as the most typical tuna.
For desserts or snacks "picarones" (a sweet potato/pumkin flour fritter) from the Picarones Mary cart in Park Kennedy, Miraflores are my favorites. Gelato and ice cream are excellent, one local favorite flavor is Lucuma but I always try the tropical fruit ones also, especially Maracuya (passionfruit). 4-D at the airport is good but pricy, there is also Laritz at Larcomar Mall.
In Arequipa the local favorite frozen dessert is "queso helado", be sure to get it at a specialty ice cream store and not a restaurant.
In Cusco for a nice splurge I liked Greens, alpaca and fresh salad.
I only had trout in Puno (from the stalls by the port).
Peruvians make delicious soups, especially in the highlands.

For a list of restaurants and food stalls participating in Mistura, the national gastronomic festival (which means they are good), you can see here

In Cusco, Chi Cha the Gasto Scurio place was exceptional when we went for dinner, but appalling when we returned for lunch . Entancasqa in San Blaswas simple but very good . Don't miss the fresh fruit juices in the markets, the best and most varied ever!
In Lima, La Lucha Sanducheria make the best sandwiches and Punta Azul is great for fish and seafood. We also had amazing ceviche in a place of Miraflores Malecon but the name escapes me, I will try and remember as we plan on going back there on our return to Lima in a couple of months.
Mlgb, I have noted your suggestions for Arequipa for when we get there!!!
