Xel-Ha vs. Xcaret
Hi..We're going to Tulum in March for two weeks and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on which place is better for snorkelling...Xel-Ha or Xcaret. Thanks for any help you can give me.

HI: I have been to both. Xcaret is definitely the place I would choose. Snorkeling is about the same at both. However, the underground river at Xcaret is really fun. Xcaret is a whole day excursion so be prepared. You probably cannot see and do all that is offered in one day. It is fun.
Definitely Xcaret.
Xel-Ha is nice

I've been to Xel-ha and it was certainly fun, but it does have a little bit of a "zoo" feeling - it's a bit unnatural, but then again all of your needs (lockers, life jackets, etc) are taken care of. I totally agree with Nadia. Akumal is the place to go. Yalku was nice, but Akumal bay was FANTASTIC. Half-moon bay (all three spots very close together) is supposed to be nice, but was too rough for snorkeling the day we were there. If you are brand new to snorkeling and want to make a day of it, or if you have little kids, go for Xel-ha - you won't be disappointed. If you've snorkelled before or are a tiny bit more adventurous, go for Akumal. You'll see big fish and turtles.
Haven't been to Xcaret but heard it is an all day disney-like experience. The night show is not to be missed. It's pretty expensive too, from what I recall ($60/person), whereas Xel-ha was a bit less, and Akumal is $6 at Yal-ku and free at the other two spots ($5 life jacket rental at the dive shop if you want it).
Have fun!

I also agree with the other posters who recommended Akumal over either of the other two.
Xel Ha was over-crowded, over-priced and teeming with screaming kids. Never again... (But if you have kids, that might be your best bet.)
