Cozumel - Chankanaab Lagoon

We will be in Cozumel in a few weeks and we are trying to figure out what to do. We read that there are 60 types of tropical fish at Chankanaab Lagoon. Our question is can we actually snorkel in the lagoon? The info we read did make it clear.

You can't snorkel in the interior lagoon, but you can snorkel in the bay - which has many more fish anyway.
You will enjoy Chankanaab. There's a lot to see and do and the snorkeling is very good there.
Have fun!

We have been to Cozumel twice and Chankanaab is one of our favorite places! It's very pretty there, lots of chairs and sun shade. The lagoon and botanical gardens are very beautiful. The snorkeling in the bay is great without having to venture very far out. You can rent any equipment you need right on the beach and have a drink or bite to eat. Although we did not do this, the dolphin swim looks very cool...you really get up close and intimate with the dolphins. I would certainly do this if I ever go back. Have a great time!

I would ask you to please reconsider the dolphin swim. They are incredibly cruel. I did it once and was sorry ever since. No matter how clean or nice it looks, more than half of the dolphins die within 60 to 90 days of capture.
In order to make an informed decision, please visit:

http://dolphinproject.org/

http://www.hsus.org/ace/11727

(The second site is the Humane Society of the United States' position on SWTD programs.)

I second the dolphin advice (don't do it) and also the advice to visit Chankanab....that was a LOT of fun!

Voting here that you pass on the captured dolphin experience but you might get a whole lot more information about Mexico and Cozumel on the Latin America boards on this site.

I never said anything about dolphins! Why are people asking me to reconsider something I didn't even know was a possibility!?
