transport from Guatemal City to Antigua

My plane arrives in G.C. at 11:30 am - the place I'm staying at in Antigua has offered to arrange transport. The next shuttle leaving is at 1:30 (cost: $10). I know there are lots of transport options. How long to get through customs and pick up one's luggage? Not that I'm in a rush but I also don't feel like hanging out at the airport. Arrange it now or just wing it when I get there?

It took us about 1 hr to get everything done. We also changed money at the desk there. Exchange rate seemed pretty reasonable at the time. Don't know if things have improved but there has been a problem getting money out of atms recently.

We opted for a private transfer to GC from Antigua so we wouldn't have to hang around the airport for 3 hrs when heading up to Tikal. Private for 1-2 people is $35. I checked with Elizabeth Bell and Turansa travel companies.

There should be a line of shuttles heading to Antigua outside the airport, typically $12, I think. I wouldn't want to hang out at the airport for an extra hour if I was you. I'd just wing it.

We hired a driver ahead of time to pick us up at the airport. The drive to Antigua was pretty. We did get stuck behind a "local" bus so it took a little longer, but it was nice having somewone waiting for us when we arrived. Set a price and pay ahead of time if possible, this avaoids any miscommunication as to rate. There are drivers at the airport in GC if you decide to wing it too. Have a great trip, Antigua is BEAUTIFUL!!

We are going directly to Atitlan from the airport via private van. From Atitlan to Antigua and then Antigua to the airport for transfer to Tikal.

Are there lines of shuttles someplace in Antigua to get to GC? We seem to be going in the opposite direction from everyone else! Story of my life .

Suzie2: most of the travel agencies in Antigua can book a shuttle for you to GC from Ant. or just about anyplace else for that matter. They can arrange for the van/shuttle to pick you up at your hotel.
