Tortuga Island - worth visiting?

Hi! I was just wondering if visiting Tortuga Island is worth the time and money. We are considering taking one of the trips from Punteranus instead of taking the bus all the way from San Jose and back. Although, I heard it is cheaper from the Nicoya penensula, if I can figure out which company goes from there. I'm also interested in the boat trip itself. It looks like you get to pass a lot of nice islands on the way. Does anyone know if the trip from Nicoya is as scenic? We'll probably be spending some time on the Nicoya beaches or at least in Manuel Antonio, so would a trip to Tortuga just be overkill?

We did it as a day trip from San Jose and I do NOT recommend that...the bus ride was fairly miserable and the day was much too long. If you are near Puntarenas, I would think it would be a very nice excursion. The catamaran was fine although not as luxurious as billed, but it was beautiful scenery. Tortouga Island was crowded when we were there but that was a Sunday right after Christmas. We were on Calypso. We left Tortuga Island at 4pm and got to see sunset out in the Gulf of Nicoya. By the way, the cat stopped on the way to Tortuga and let some people off and that tour might have been a little "nicer" so you could check that out. I'll try to check back on you to see if you have other questions!

Peggi,
Thanks for the info. I've found out that we may be able to take a trip to Tortuga from Montezuma for $40. That may be the way to go. They don't really give much of a discount for boarding in Punteranus vs. taking the bus from San Jose.

We are taking the trip from Montezuma next week. And yes, it is quite a bit less expensive. Look at a previous post, a few days back - subject was
Brent? Montezuma Insight?
He talks about the trip there.
