Hi, <BR>S. America is the last continent (apart from Antartica) that I am yet to visit and would like to have suggestions from fellow Fodorites as I have done for the past several trips. <BR>I would like to take my wife to a country which you guys suggest would be best suited for a week's vacation. We are not too interested in beaches, but love to explore flora and fauna, as well as the natural beauty and history/ culture of the local people. <BR>Can you please suggest a country where I could begin our initiation to S. America? It would be great if you could suggest an itinary as well.

Ecuador would be my first choice-although I haven't made it to the Galapagos yet. <BR>Cities are safe, the Amazon, the Coast and the Andes are all to hand and tourism industry well-organized. <BR>A dollarized economy would simplify your currency concerns. <BR>There's all kinds of info on the net about Ecuador-get clickin'!

You should visit Pantanal or Amazon in Brazil. Beautiful fauna and flora, different culture, and not so expensive now.
