There are SO many. What in particular are you looking for? The most luxurious? The biggest pool? The one that has the most restaurants? A good kids club or an all adult?

I'm interested too! My requirements are great pools for a 4 year old, nice rooms, great beach with easy access. Also looking for a more quaint resort, than a mass of tall buildings. Allt his during the first week of March. Is that Spring Break?

Deanna,
One of the smaller all inclusives in the area is The Reef Club. It's got a great 'jungle' feel as they built around the jungle instead of cutting it all down and planting grass like most others. Rooms were nice but nothing luxurious. I'd rate it a 3* out of 5. As for the pool...they have two. One for activities and one with the 'swim up bar. Neither are very large though, as compared to other resort pools in the area, and felt slightly crowded to me. The pool with the bar is good for a 4 year old (with supervision of course!) because it's got a section about 15' X 5' that is only about 1/2 ft' deep! Great for laying down on to work on your tan.
Oh wait! I remember there is also another smaller pool on the other side of the bar that's connected to the hot tub (that is not hot at all but same temp as pool) that's perfect! If I recall it's about 10 or 15' X 6-7 ft. and is about 1 to 1-1/2 ft deep! Great for smaller kids.
There is very easy access to the beach and the beach is not as crowded as other resort beaches as The Reef Club is at the end of the long line of resorts. As for spring break...I was at the Reef Club in August, but I went to Viva Azteca in March. Yes, there were the usual 'drunks' around the pool bar, but no rowdy teenagers. I think most of the spring break crowds stay in Cancun.

We are staying at the xpu-ha Palace resort. We've got two boys and this sounds like a greeeat family vacation spot.

A word of warning about the Viva Azteca,
Especially at Easter or Spring Break!
On arriving at the Viva Azteca last Easter (2002), we were informed that our reservations, made through an agency, had been cancelled. Well waiting to reach my agent, I witnessed three other couples being given variations of this story. When we eventually were walked down the beach (a 20 minute car ride away from everything), we met four other couples who had been given the same story. On returning to Canada, and trying to get satisfaction, I contacted their head office in the Dominica Republic. Their e-mail response had a virus attached.
So beware!
PS After all the positive info I've passed on the fodors web, this is the only place I have dissed.

We (family of 4) just returned from the Barcelo Maya. Check my post http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...p;tid=34403081 for details.

DAWN

I noticed you said you were going to XPU-HA Palace. My son wants to go there on his honeymoon and I was wondering how nice of a place it was. Thanks for any help.
Catherine
