PLACES TO STAY IN COSTA RICA
In the process of making reservations at Xandari, Aguila de Osa, Punta Islita and
Finca Rosa Blanca- fourteen days in total.
Has anyone been to some of these places?
Comments/suggestions very much welcome.
Thanks.

My information is getting a wee bit dated, since it's getting close to two years since our last visit, but here's my two cents anyway. We were at Xandari for two nights and because of scheduling issues 'had' to stay in two different rooms. Both were just beautiful. Stunning. Awesome views. We didn't find that the service matched the rooms though. The food at the restaurant really wasn't very good, and they managed to lose our reservation for a table by the window. It just felt like it wasn't being professionally managed. And so much security that it was a bit intimidating. I was a bit unnerved to notice that the gardener was carrying a pistol. If I was going to return to the area, I'd look at Peace Lodge, even though it's further from the airport.
We also stayed at Aguila de Osa. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Certainly not luxurious, but such fun. Ask for a room that isn't 'in the middle' as the walls aren't very thick and you can hear your neighbors. Food was very good, and lots of wine (complementary) with dinner. Other drinks and beer available for purchase at a reasonable price. Nice tour guides, good tours. We'd definitely go back.
I haven't been to the other places that you mentioned.

Hi David
We have stayed at Xandari three times.I did not feel bothered by someone guarding the area with a weapon since I think there are guards at many of the nice places in Costa Rica. The grounds are so beautifu. We always end trip there because they are close to the airport and when you stay there the night before it feels like you are still on vacation. While the food in the restaurant probably does not measure up to the rooms it is fine and some of it is very tasty.I never felt that the service did not measure up to the grounds. We were ther once on the fourth of July and the owners happened to be there and had a small cocktail party that night to celebrate the fourth.
The grounds are out in the country and you do enter through a security gate. They have alwasy been on time to pick us up and promptly at five in the morning the driver has knocked on our door for the ride to the airport. I don't think you could possibly be disappointed with Xandari.

We were at both Xandari and Finca Rosa Blanca. Both were fabulous. Finca Rosa Blanca was awesome. They have a great suite with a turret room and 360 view with the bed in the middle. If you love art, you'll flip. The service was excellent. I can't wait to go back.

Punta Islita is paradise! Gloriously secluded, friendly staff that really makes you feel at home (a very luxurious vacation beach home), unique. The romantic private dinner is extra special. We took it and they even provided a babysitter for our daughter.
