Palermo Photos

I am trying to convince my husband that we should rent an apartment in Palermo versus Recoleta....but having never been there, I have no way to make my case other than instinct. I have found a handfull of very lovely apartment rentals on www.internationalnest.com but the ones I like best are in Palermo. However, my hubbie wants to be in a lovely tree-lined neighborhood with attractive buildings and thinks that that is only to be found in Recoleta. He doesn't want to come out of the apartment building and be surrounded by stragglers from nightclubs. So we want more upscale than hip. Is there such a place in Palermo? Does anyone know a website where I can find photos of how Palermo looks?

Palermo is a very large neighborhood, there are beautiful areas with parks, tree lined streets, attractive buildings, and other areas that are not so nice, so it will all depend on what streets the apartments are located on. If you want you can email me and i can send you some pictures. There are some apartments listed under Palermo that are in fact closer to Recoleta. The area near Palermo parks is really beautiful.

You may also want to focus on the apartment that you like best. At the end of the day, Palermo isn't that far from Recoleta, and taxis are cheap.

Recoleta really is more of a citified upscale area, much like some beautiful parts of Madrid. Beautiful side streets and Avenidas, with many cafes, restaurants and shops. As a New Yorker we loved it. Palermo feels more low key in many respects, and it is, with much smaller buildings, cobble stone streets in areas and a younger feeling. It reminds me a bit of some upscale areas of Mexcio City, in a good way. Both are terrific and you will enjoy whichever you choose, no doubt.

I too have never been to BA & have been grappling with this same question -- Palermo vs Recoleta (and earlier posted a separate question about a particular apt). Have come down on the side of Recoleta but was struck by the comment in this thread that "At the end of the day, Palermo isn't that far from Recoleta, and taxis are cheap." But it has also been noted that Palermo is a big place. So my question is this: which part of Palermio -- Soho, Hollywood, Viejo, etc. -- is close to Recoleta? Thanks.

The area of Palermo closer to Recoleta is the one limited by Avenida Figueroa Alcorta, Sarmiento Ave., Las Heras, and Pueyrredon Ave (the area that encloses the Zoo, Palermo Parks, Palermo Chico, the Malba museum, the Decorative Arts Museum, etc.).
If you need a good map of Buenos Aires, try this:

http://mapa.buenosaires.gov.ar/sig/index.phtml

Zoom in to Palermo and you will see how close these areas are to Recoleta.
