Recoletta or Palermo ?

Spending two months in BA as of January 29, 2007. We will be renting an apartment there, but cannot decide in which of the two neighborhoods to stay. We've seen a couple of great places on-line in Recoletta, but we are now thinking that Palermo might be better because of its laid back feel and all the restaurants/cafes. We're two very quiet travellers, love our privacy, and plan to hang out and discover BA for a few weeks before day/week tripping around the country. My concern with Palermo is that it could be loud - neither of us drink, we're 45 and 64 ... whaddya think? Thanks a lot.

Noise is relative to where you are in either neighborhood--Recoleta on Junin/Oritz or on Vicente Lopez near Azcuenaga is very, very noisy. There are other locations within Recoleta that are much quieter.

Palermo is a very large neighborhood. Again, some sections are noisy and others are not. I just returned from a two month stay in Palermo, in a very quiet area of Palermo proper, but just a few blocks away on Las Heras, noise is an issue....it is all about location.....

Thanks for your input, we'll have a look at the streets that our potential rentals are on ... in which area did you stay in Palermo?

I stayed on Scalabrini Ortiz between Las Heras and Ave. Libertador. It is a great part of Palermo.
