Mexico region question
Hi,
I'm looking at options for all-inclusive resorts for my honeymoon (looking to spend between 4-6 thousand). Although we enjoy drinking, we are looking to avoid the "spring break" atmosphere. I was wondering what regions cater mostly to the college crowd (I understand Cancun is one).
Also we would like an area that has some ruins or some interesting nature/wildlife excursion nearby.
Oh we've also been looking at Secrets/Dreams, it's hard to get an idea of what's good because a lot of the information on the website is similar across their resorts. The reviews I've read have been favourable, seems a better choice than Sandals.
Any advice/comments/feedback appreciated

To find a combination of beach and ancient ruins you'd want to locate in the Yucatan Peninsula (Riviera Maya).
To escape the worst of the spring break crowds you'll want to locate outside of Cancun, maybe Cozumel, Playa del Carmen or possibly Tulum.
All are on the beach, have all-inclusive hotel deals and you can take tours to the ruins of Tulum, Coba and Chitzen Itza from them.

If you want "ruins" and near a beach, you need the Caribbean side, Yucatan peninsula, "Mayan Riviera". You can easily avoid spring breakers by staying at a more expensive resort (which your stated budget will cover).

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is wonderful! a once in a lifetime place! just what a honeymoon deserves. Not the typical AI. The restaurants are spectacular, as is the spa, the pools, the grounds, the amenities, service, rooms, views, balconies, there is an adult only section on the beach also. It's perfection, IMO.
