This is my situation. I'm planning my upcoming honeymoon in November. We will be in the Playa area for 11 nights. The first 7 nights we are staying at the Adventura/Spa Palace and we wanted to stay the last 4 nights at a non AI hotel. Now I've been to cancun before, however, my fiance hasn't. Should we spend the last 4 nights in a Playa hotel or should we stay in Cancun the last 4 since she's never been? <BR><BR>Thanks for your input. <BR><BR>

Hi Randy<BR><BR>We have been to Mexico 4 months ago for 8 weeks. Next other lovely places we've visited Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres. We skipt Cancun since this is not really a beautiful place to be (big hotels - thousands of tourists). In my opinion you two should spend the last 4 nights either in Playa del Carmen or even better on the island "Isla Mujeres". Another good site for Isla Mujeres is www.isla-mujeres.net. They have a very active forum and lots of information on the island. <BR><BR>I've been to Isla Mujeres a couple of times. Not sure if I'd call it the most beautiful in Mexico, but Playa Norte is a beautiful beach and it's terrific for swimming. When we were there in March, we found a lot more development (some of it not so good) on the island as compared to 4 years ago. But it's still much nicer than Cancun. I'm really not keen on Cancun and after several trips to that part of Mexico, have only stayed there 1 night and that was because of an early flight. It would be quite easy to get to Isla Mujeres - just go up to Cancun and catch the ferry at Puerto Juarez. <BR><BR>Another alternative is Cozumel. I actually like Cozumel quite a lot. Sure it gets a lot of cruise traffic, but the snorkeling is really good. <BR><BR>However, if you're in the Playa area for 7 days, you can always take a day trip to Cozumel. You wouldn't take a day trip to Isla Mujeres, I think it's a bit far to go for a day.

I completely agree about Isla Mujeres. It will make a nice contrast to Playa. Also, just as you can take daytrips to Cozumel from Playa, you can take daytrips to Cancun from Isla Mujeres. If you do decide on Cancun, however, Isla Mujeres is an easy daytrip from there.
