Is there romance in Rio?

I bought my plane ticket today to Rio! My boyfriend is taking me there in August. He wants to plan the entire trip himself, and of course, has asked me to find the "must see" places, and he will tell his "travel contact". I am skeptical. This will be my first trip ever, outside of the US and Mexico. Any ideas for a week long itinerary would be greatly appreciated. What is the average cost involved for a week in Rio?

Heather, If you trust your boyfriend or not about his contacts in rio, Rio is a great place, its fun, exciting, sexy, you can have the time of your life just get rid of the skepticism and go with the flow. This is a very uninhibited place with pure intention people, leave your baggage at home and just take your bathing suit and have a good time even though August is their winter but you may have days up to 80 degrees. Average cost? .60 cents for a beer on the beach, $2 for a mixed drink in clubs at night, $12 for a good meal in a nice restaurent in Copacabana. Its very affordable if you know where to go and exchange your money in the right place, this is not Cancun, you need to have your head about you and be aware at all times. You have time to find out what you need to know, keep asking questions and all these knowledgable people on this board will steer you straight so that you have the best engaged time of your life without any problems.

Hi,<BR>I live in Sao Paulo and we have hosted many foreign visitors in Rio including part of our wedding last year. Be certain to stay at the Copacabana Palace, don't waste your time and money on anywhere else. This it the grande dame of LA hotels and wonderful! Right on the beach and with a wonderful pool. Visit Christ the Redeemer about one hour before sunset (leave two hours prior, it takes at least 40 minutes to get up to the top including travel time from your hotel, and go with a car and driver which your hotel can arrange, it is more pleasant and convenient). The sunset and view there is the best on earth. Be sure to eat at Porcao, a wonderful place with a salad bar as big as Manhattan and roving skewers with every kind of meat, a view of Sugarloaf and a bartender who mixes the drinks right at your table! Also try Aprezivel, up in the hills, and book an outdoor table with a view on the varanda. Very, very romantic. Have fun!!

The Copacabana Palace, probably the best hotel in Rio but how many of us can afford it, maybe $250 - $350 a day. For nice rooms and great loaction there are other hotels on Copacabana, try The Luxor Regente, The Miramar Palace or the Debret, look at this site: WWW.blabeitonrio4travel.com.
