How to get from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janiero??
4 girls in our twenties are traveling in a few weeks from Sao Paulo to Rio.
What is the best way to get there? We are planning on a bus ride (about 6 hours)....do we need tickets before hand or should we purchase them there? What are the bus companies for Brazil?
Help!!

I haven't gone on the bus from Sao Paulo to Rio, but I found the Intercity buses we used were cheap, comfortable and reliable. You get allocated seat numbers, we bought the tickets at the bus terminal on the day we travelled.

hiya, right all you need to do is catch a bus from Terminal Rodoviaria Tiete in Sao Paulo to Rio. There are loads of buses so will not need to buy beforehand, unless it is a public holiday weekend. There are various bus companies and types of buses, all air conditioned but some with bed like seats etc ! Prices vary from around US$45 to US$70 per person. One company is 1001, another itapimerim, etc. Go onto 1001 web site, easy to use, good luck

You should rent a car and drive from São Paulo to Rio. Take the coastal road - BR-101. It is one of the most beautiful drives in the world - going though Maresias and Ubatuba, past spectacular beaches, mountains coming down to the Atlantic, waterfalls and great little beach towns, surfing, etc.
