Help with last minute honeymoon

Hi All,

We were booked to go on our honeymoon in early Feb to Maldives and Sri Lanka. Due to the unfortunate events there we can no longer travel there and are looking at alternatives.
We have 2 weeks and were looking at spending 5-6 days at a romantic resort where we can relax and do nothing. (This is what we were doing in Maldives) Not big on AI or big hotels. Something with villas and quiet.

We would then spend the second week doing some exploring.

Tossing up between
a)1 week in Mexico and 1 in Cuba
b) a combo of Belize/Guatemala
c) any other suggestions in this area

Any help much appreciated!!!

Koota, I would suggest you check out Costa Rica. You can be as active or relaxed as you want there. Here are some nice small romantic hotels to check out:
On the beaches:
www.florblanca.com
www.makanda.com
www.calaluna.com
www.hotelpuntaislita.com
www.villacaletas.com/indexflash.html

And in Central Valley:
www.xandari.com
www.finca-rblanca.co.cr/
www.waterfallgardens.com/lapaz-peacelodge.htm

There are also active volcanoes, rainforest, cloud forest and other natural wonders to explore.

Hope you can find a good replacement for your cancelled trip.

Hi there,
We were just in Belize and stayed at Turtle Inn in Placencia. They have gorgeous villas, very romantic and it's definitely a place for relaxing. Try to get a seafront villa....

Also you might want to check out some of the hotels on Ambergris Caye. North of the cut is much quieter than south of town...but it would take a little more effort on your part to get into town for restaurants, etc.

Places we saw that we liked (we didn't stay at these) were Mata Chica, Portofino and Capricorn Resort. At Capricorn there are only about 4 rooms...and it has a fantastic restaurant. We talked to a few folks who were staying there and they looked incredibly relaxed!

Belize is a beautiful country...

You might also consider a combination of the Galapagos Islands and Ecaudor or Peru.

Hi
Just returned last night from Ambergriscaye after a nice lazy Christmas vacation. We stayed at the south end of the island at Sunset Beach. These are a group of condos right on the beach that are quite nice with a pool. It is quiet here. Right behind the condos is a house where a local guide lives and he is great about setting up any tours. Just ask for Carlos. Be warned that Amergris is not for people who want to swim off the beach a lot. There is mostly seagrass so you really have to go off the end of the pier (right in front of the place) or in the pool. The form of transportation is golf cart or cab. We rented a golf cart and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to town-whats the hurry right. Right next to us was a really neat restaurant that was built over the water with a thatch roof-very romantic, not busy and good food.I found the rental on vrbo.com. Follow the links to Belize and then look for the rental on Ambergris that has "Wish you were here" written in the sand.
