Where in Belize to RELAX??

My husband and I are looking to visit Belize in late April (went to Costa Rica last year and loved it) but the more I read about it the more I wonder is it too "adventurous" for what we need (I will be 7 months pregnant). We are really just looking for a nice resort (with TV and AC!) that on the beach with a nice pool where we can hang out, maybe get a massage and relax before the new baby comes. Placienda was suggested but the fligths to Belize are already $600 pp and adding another $200 pp to get there plus another flight doesnt appeal to me. Am I looking at the right destination? Thanks for any input

You're either going to have to rent a car or fly pretty much anywhere from Belize City to get to a beach. There is a water taxi to Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye, but I sure wouldn't try that if I was seven months pregnant, you're really at the mercy of the weather. I'd be worried about the possibility of rough seas.

There are several nice resorts on Ambergris Caye that would fit your requirements. Belizean Shores has the nicest pool on the island, it's a few miles north of town, you'd need to take a boat back and forth, or rent a golf cart.

Victoria House is really nice, but pricy. You might look at Aquamarina Suites, right in town, nice small pool. Restaurant and bar, loungers on teh beach. Also Blue Tang is fun and friendly. Many people like Banana Beach, too motel-like for my taste. Next door is Mata Rocks, nice beach, cute little beach bar. A pretty decent hike into town. You could also look at Ramon's, one of the more 'resorty' properties on the island. I think it's sort of overpriced, but many enjoy it. There are lots of other options.

My opinion is that you should go somewhere else while you are pregnant, and save Belize for later. The nicest resorts there are Francis Ford Coppola's resorts, and neither of those have air conditioning (though they really don't need it), or TV. Belize isn't really a TV watchin'kind of place. At Turtle Inn, you can have a BEAUTIFUL un-airconditioned cabana that sits about 10 feet from the ocean's edge on a white sandy beach, you can sip a cold drink or enjoy a gelato by the pool, and dine on authentic Italian cuisine. However, the road to get there would be torchur on a pregnant woman as the roads are unimaginably bad--you'd HAVE to take a puddle jumper from the airport, and in doing so you'd miss all the FABULOUS scenery. Also, almost all the tours will require some hiking which might be difficult if you are 7 months pregnant. However, if you don't do the tours, what's the point in going to Belize? Belize is for adventure. Plus, if, God forbid, anything happened with your pregnancy, it would be a very long distance to any hospital. You should DEFINITELY go someday, but while pregnant it would be best to stick to a spa resort someplace a bit more touristy and more densely populated. I'm pregnant myself, and I want to go back to Belize so badly I can't stand it, but I'm going to save that for sometime after the baby is born.

I concur. Belize isn't the place for a woman 7 months into pregnancy. If you find Placentia too hard to get to, your only real options are the pricey resorts north of town on ambergris keye. To get there, you have to take an island hopper plane--with limited schedules. The airport landing stip doesn't have lights so flights are only during the day. If there was an emergency, you would really be risking your own and your baby's life. My suggestion--don't leave the country at 7 months. My understanding is that most doctors recommend against even flying that close to a due date. Finally, pretty much everything on the menu is seafood. If you doctor has you off seafood for your pregnancy, you'll have limited food choices.

I'd save Belize for when I can fully participate in the activities it has to offer. But plenty of people visit who just want to lay by the pool, relax and be pampered. The return air to Ambergris for two is US$168.00 round trip. The San Pedro airstrip DOES have landing lights and I think restaurants serve as much chicken and meat as they do fish dishes.
