Going to Tamarindo in 2 weeks had a couple questions?

Whats up I am going to Tamarindo in 2 weeks with my brother and his friend. Its mainly a surf trip but were young and want to party to. Just wondering how the nightlife is this time of year and what bars are good to go to...heard the Mambo bar is fun. Also how do the women look down there? heard prostitution is legal, is it? also whats the drinking age down there im 20 and my brother and his buddy are both 18, will we be able to get into the bars and buy alcohol? is there anything to look out for as far as violence or crime...we live in the Bay Area, California so i wouldnt imagine there would be much more violence than we already have here. Any advice helps. Thanks

Drinking age is 18. I would stay away form the Mambo bar. People have been known to have had their drinks spiked and then robbed. A young australian disappeared after going to hang out with some local kids.

The women who hang out at the Mambo will only be interested in your money. The prostitutes will probably rob you once you fall asleep. Venereal disease is a possibility as well

I second the comments about the Mambo Bar. Use AT LEAST as much caution in your dealings as you would at home. Also be cautious regarding drugs. Marijuana is 'everywhere' in Tamarindo and hard drugs are easy to find -but very much illegal. You DON'T want to end up in a central american jail.

cheers

One more thing...

Tamarindo is defiantely a party town and you can have a much safer time drinking at a hotel bar
