Mambo Bar Tamarindo?

whats up everyone i posted this question to a guy whos been there and he said its best to stay away from the place:wierdos, drugs, people spiking your drinkings, a young guy disapeared one time....anyways here was my response to him and he didnt respond back so if any one can give me some more info based on this let me know

"whats up man had a couple more questions...anyways like i said i heard the Mambo is the party spot and iv also heard its kinda edgy, and not from just you. Is it like that to everybody or just to the oblivous non streetwise guy and his buddies. Like i said i live in the Bay Area,CA and we have our fair share of violence and drugs. Its nothing new to me and im not just the normal tourist....im very streetwise and can sense when the vibe is going south. Im not to small either 6 ft 180 and have played football all my life and about to go into the Navy SEALS so i know how to hold my own. But iv never been there so i need to info...do u think i can go with my brother and his friend( both are descent size kids and both 18) and not find trouble or is it a for sure. Also were not punks, we wont go looking for trouble we just want to have a good time. Also were not the kind of dudes you would target out of a group, i dont know, maybe im barking up the wrong tree or wat. Can we go keep our wits about us and have a good time or is it a for sure bust. Also we are staying at the hotel Pasatiempo and heard they got a cool bar...should we just go there and chill and maybe hit up some other bars?...Mambo sounds fun though or is it bad news....iv seen plenty of pictures of people there and it doesnt seem to bad but when you got cocaine, drugs, booze, prostitutes, money and alot of people i can see the concern...any advice?

This forum is generally populated, it seems, with older, fairly conservative, people who probably are not terribly interested in sleazy bars or hookers....LOL.

Many people have gone there and 'lived to tell the tale' but just remember that 'getting into a bit of trouble' in a foreign country can be a very different than at home.

I´ve been there, and I´m an ¨¨old person¨! Just be sure to keep your wits about you--stay sober, be smart, give it up before the wee hours of the morning. This would be true pretty much of any beach bar in a heavily touristed area. Don´t be a target, as you said! Have a great time and enjoy this beautiful country!

LOL Shillmac......we've never met but I would not have imagined you as the type to hang around that 'fine establishment'...

My response was mainly because Sandfrog came across as a testosterone-charged 18 year old guy. I saw some warning signs when Sandfrog kept mentioning how big and strong he and his buddies are...

My friends in Tamarindo are a heck of a lot younger and more fit than I and they don't frequent the Mambo.

cheers

Jerry

Well, it was 3 years ago and I wasn´t 50 yet--and surely it was a tamer place then? We drove past it today, and I thought of this thread and how Sandfrog would ¨make out¨there (so to speak).

And Sandfrog, I don´t think there was any insult intended from Jerry--you´ve gotta keep your cool if you´re gonna do okay at Mambo bar! We all wish you well. . .

At any rate, Jerry, no more Mambo bar for me, I´m pretty sure of that!
We did have a great time at Ginger last night though. Wow. .talk about a great restaurant!
