costa rica traffic signs problems or driving in costa rica
Hello my name is Michael Juarbe, a Graduate Student conducting a survey for my Graphic Design Master’s Thesis Project. Your answers will be used exclusively for my research and will not be released to any third party.
If you have visited Costa Rica in the past five years and travelled on your own (i.e. with a rental car and not with a guide or tour group) please answer the following questions in my monkey survey website:

The biggest current problem hindering car tourism...
The gov't has recently raised speeding tickets to insane levels.
$500!!!???? Not too good for tourism when speed limit in
small towns along major highways is 40KPH(27 MPH)
too many SPEED TRAPS!!!!!
Got popped in Palmar Sur last year but talked them out of it.

We were warned about the tickets and warned that it is a scam and you can ALWAYS talk your way out of it by giving cash. We did not experience any problems. We always had seat belt on. We had many police check points in Jaco, Punteneras but were never ticketed. All in all the police were very nice and helpful. We did not visit towns at night due to livestock roaming free and stayed away from larger towns after sunset.

Definitely not a scam, it's law. But if you file an appeal within 10 days, you join 100,000 others in line.
