Copper Canyon Warning/HELP

Please be WARNED! We took the Sierra Spectacular Tour of the Copper Canyon with Canyon Travel, Bulverde, Texas (December 22, 2008 - January 2, 2009). We paid $600.00 extra for a ticket on a private train car with a provision that if the car was not attached to the train, the money would be refunded. We ended up with a first-class ticket because the special car had been damaged 2 months prior to our departure (we did not find this out until we were waiting at the train station in El Fuerte). When we returned home we informed our travel agent about the need for a refund. After being promised 5 (five) times that "the check is in the mail". Now, 2 months after our return I called (3/5/09) and spoke to the owner of Canyon Travel, Emilio, who told me that he would FedEx the check that very day. Well, this, as the last 5 promises was a blatant lie. We cannot afford to "give away" $600.00-any suggestions to put pressure on this company to refund our money?

As above there should be no problem contesting this on your credit card if it is not too late. You did not receive the merchandise as credit card companies put it. The one thing I am afraid of is that you may have passed the deadline to contest the charge. If you check your credit card on-line you should be able to contest the charge on-line right now. If not call them now.

Just curios- why on earth would you cc company not honor the dispute. You did not get what you paid for. The burden is on the merchant to document that you got what you paid for. Beyond that here's where to start in filing a tourist complaint in Mexico:

Contact the Better Business Bureau. I have had help from them in Arizona. Also Is the travel company licensed in your state? If so report them. Licensing agencies are usually slow but helpful.
