Arenal SkyTrek for Non-zipliners Questions

My husband wants to do the zip-line at Arenal Sky Trek. I want to do just the Sky Walk. Does anybody know the logistics of this? Do we take the tram up together and I could do the walk and he the zip-line? Has anybody done the walk without a guide? How would this be by myself? Would I then take the tram down and meet him after the zip-line? We would be using their shuttle service from the hotel.

Thanks for any info.

You will take the tram up and then walk back down. Someone from our group opted to walk down instead, though I can't honestly remember if he went alone or had a guide. I would think they would have someone walk down with you. You will meet back at the main starting point.

eliza, I'll be curious to hear what you think about the walk. I haven't heard of very many people doing it. Will you post back afterward?

You may be choosing to opt out of the zip line due to health or physical limitations. If so, disregard my comment. I did this zip line in 2008. I was terrified initially, but it ended up being my favorite memory from our 9 days in CR. It is just an awesome experience and I'm happy to say I've gone ziplining another time since. The first line is intimidating, but it really is cool.

I will totally ditto that comment. Scared, but really glad we did it.

It seems like it would be hard to coordinate the timing of someone doing the walk and the other ziplining. I've heard the walk is fairly short, and the ziplining takes a couple of hours. There is a restaurant there though if you need a place to kill time.

I'll check on the walk. When we went, my husband planned to zip line but as soon as he saw the first one he said no way. He's terrified of heights and this one was way too much. He's zip lined in Mexico on smaller zip lines but Sky Trek is much higher and longer. When I did the first long one, all I could think of was how glad I was that he didn't go, he would have hated it.

My mom also rode the tram up, with no intentions of zip lining, so they walked down together. I have no idea if it was a guide or if they were alone. I know the walk was short and they had a lot of time waiting for us. As soon as I get the details, I'll come back and post!

Shell, do you know if they saw any wildlife? I wouldn't think that a lot of wildlife would hang out near a zipline area, but not sure. We did see the hugest snake I've ever seen there - about 7 feet long. I was glad he was on the ground!

I was told by Skytrek that there was no way to walk down, if you take the tram up, you have to take it down (if you aren't zipping). There's the Skywalk, the Tram, and the Zip; no combining menus.

It appears it will be too hard to co-ordinate going up on Sky Tram and getting down to do Sky Walk guided tour which apparently is located at the base, not from where Sky Tram lets you off at the top. So I will do the Sky Walk and my husband will do the zip line. The Walk gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. It's supposed to be about 2.5 miles, 2-3 hr tour. I'll post my comments on it when I return from the trip late March.

Here's how much I pay attention! All this time I thought my mom and husband walked back down, but they ended up taking the tram back down!! Funny! So, yes it's correct that if you take the tram up and don't zip down, you have to wait and they will take you back down on the tram. I'm not sure about the sky walk tour at all. They just waited for us at the bottom. I have no idea what they did all that time!

And volcanogirl - we saw a snake too! Ours was fairly small and it was coiled all around one of the platforms, the one towards the end. Right on the steps that you climb! You could have reached right over and touched this one though!
