wine and cheese, italian style

does anyone know any wineries in the Campania/Amalfi coast that are open for tours/tastings? We would like to be able to partake of some different varieties than we are used to. ALSO--we are trying to find a buffalo mozzarella dairy that is open to the public so that we can tour and taste. THANKS!

Funny you should ask. I was reading Carla Capalbo's book last night, and saw some listings that are exactly what you are asking about. It appears that she provides very detailed information. Here is a link to the book, which I got from my local library by asking for it to be delivered to the branch nearest my home:

I just gave this information on another recent thread:

The mozzarella producers are concentrated south of Battipaglia. One producer who allows tourists to visit is:

www.vannulo.it

Another, with a cooking school, is:

http://www.agriturismoseliano.it/index.php

Note that neither of these is located on the Amalfi coast itself.

For wine, here is but one producer in the Avellino area ; visitors are welcomed by appointment:

Here is another well respected producer in the region:

If you are in Campania next week, from Friday 18 until Sunday 20, you have to know that in Paestum (a very interesting and famous archeological area) there is the third edition of Salone della Mozzarella and there you can taste the true and excellent mozzarella di bufala; possible also to taste it with prosciutto di Norcia, with aceto balsamico tradizionale di Reggio Emilia, with Fico Bianco del Cilento.
It will possible to taste also several excellent olive oils.
I will be there and, for sure, a small group of mozzarella lovers is coming from USA and we will meet there.

Some wineries/vinyards to visit in Campania:

-Cantine del Notaio
-Cantine Gran Furor Divina Costiera di Marisa Cuomo
-Di Meo
-Feudi di San Gregorio
-Giannattasio
-Marianna Winery
-Mastroberardino
-Struzziero
-Terra dei Re
-Terredora Winery

(Feudi di San Gregorio and Mastroberardino are probably the two most well-known)

I compiled the links to them on a page of my blog: http://southernitaly.wordpress.com/useful-area-links/ under "Vinyards and Wine"

Vincenzo,

Can you share any more details?

My wife and I arrive on the 18th for 8 days in Sorrento and we have left our schedule open and flexible to be able to possibly discover events like the one you mention.

Grazie,

MichaelT

There's a fairly detailed description of the program (in Italian) here:

Maybe you can figure it out with Babelfish...

MichaelT,
you're leaving soon, I see.
Well.
If you send me an e-mail I can give you my mobile phone number so that on Friday you will call me and I will tell you in the details how to meet you in Paestum on Saturday.
I already organized a guided visit for a small group coming from USA and, believe me, they also are in Sorrento now and, perhaps, you could come to Paestum with them, as they have a bus.
The day of the meeting is Saturday, April 19.
We will visit the archeological area, then we will visit Salone della Mozzarella and will take a guided tasting of Mozzarella.
It will be very amazing and interesting, I hope.
Nice to meet you soon, ciao.
