It is about a 10 minute drive without traffic - but there is usually real bad traffic right at Heathrow so if you are driving from the airport allow 20+ minutes. But if you are in a rental car - the cars are not at Heathrow - they are off-airport so you may be closer or farther from Windsor.

As for the Tour - it isn't actually a tour - it is self guided. There are four main features -- The state apartments, Queen Mary's Dolls' house, St Georges Chapel and the grounds/great park. The state apartments are very grand - but actually not much more so than any of 50 other stately homes (Blenheim, Castle Howard, Chatsworth, etc.). The Doll House is absolutely amazing - don't miss it. The Chapel is beautiful and don't miss the Albert chapel. if you have time wander through the great park and over the river to Eton.

Bob,

For more info on Windsor Castle:

http://www.royalresidences.com/frWindsor.htm

While in Windsor, take time for a couple of walks. One is into Windsor Great Park, located in the "backyard" of Windsor Castle. The other is across the pedestrian bridge over the Thames into the tiny town of Eton. A quiet riverside town, home to the famous boys school.

Enjoy Windsor.

David White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com
[email protected]
