WiFi services in France and Italy
The last time I was in Paris (Dec 08) I recall that Boingo came up virtually every time that I tried to go on line with WiFi. I wasn't going to be there long enough to justify subscribing.
Can anyone recommend a service that would be a good deal for a month in Paris and a few weeks scooting around the major cities of Italy?

Italy internet is about 1 euro for 30 mins, you have internet cafes almost everywhere and most Hotels will include wife for a low cost or sometimes even free. I've spent a lot of money in an USB with vodafone that's been a major headache for us, paying for internet is better. Wireless internet is hit and miss, major headache.

I did find free WiFi in Paris at many cafes. It is free after paying $5 to $10 for a cup of coffee.
Boingo is http://www.boingo.com/.

Columbus cafes will give you half an hour free wifi if you buy something there.
If you have French
- this site lists and reviews cafés:

- the City of Paris has free wifi hotspots in parks and public buildings in opening hours (but the only time I tried it in the place des Vosges, it was pretty slow):

I was in Italy in May and Three had a fantastic deal. A sim card with unlimited data for 3 euros. I had unlocked my iphone before I left Australia and was able to use it almost everywhere. The GPS worked a treat off my iphone, and I tethered it to my netbook. You need a Codice Fiscale which you can create on the internet - just google it. If you don't have an iphone, you can buy a chiavette (USB Modem) for 19 euros.

I've spent the last year in France (Paris, mostly) and Italy (Rome) and in both cities you can find free WiFi at some of the local bars. Some examples, in Paris, the Moose (Canadian) Bar in 6th Arrondisement (fantastic cheeseburger!) and Ombre Rosse and Nick Nowego Cafes, both in the Trastevere section of Rome.

Venice has a municipal WiFi in some central locations (outdoor only); you have to register and pay a fee for it. See http://www.veniceconnected.com/venic...ection-service for further information.
