Coxtown Manor is a wonderful inn located outside of Donegal.
We loved our stay....and the restaurant is marvelous.
Even the ghosts were friendly!
Take a look!

chip,
we stayed in Donegal Town, at Ard na Breatha B&B a week ago (for 3 nights), and that is a good base for what you want to see, although we found it a little short on good pubs & music.
We drove spent some time walking around Letterkenny, a little north of Donegal Town, and we really liked it. It is much bigger than Donegal Town, with a lot of pubs & shops, but it still had a small town feel. We remarked while there that Letterkenny would make a great base (especially for exploring further north in County Donegal).

Chip, I think Letterkenny would be convenient as well (although you should be forwarned that it has a bit of sprawl around it - it's a vibrant & growing city.) The roads around there are fairly good and it doesn't take long to get to Derry or Glenveigh or even Donegal town from there. The town of Churchill, near Letterkenny, looked very charming as well and it had a couple of promising looking pubs. When we saw Churchill we thought we'd like to be based there sometime.

We were in Donegal a few years ago and checked out St. Ernan's House,a very romantic home on the water...In retrospect I wish we had stayed there, tho it was a tad more $ than in town. It is a beautiful home with all amenities!
